Client Need

This formidable estate in La Jolla Rancho was in need of both complete restoration and an interior redesign to create a more contemporary living space. The client was concerned with maintaining the original external structure, while significantly changing the home’s floor plan.

Our Solution

GDC completely gutted the inside of the home and removed several interior walls, replacing them with structural columns to support the building’s frame and roof. As a result, the open-plan kitchen has become the heart of the home and has been expanded considerably. We also completely rebuilt all six bathrooms and added custom finishes to the living area, including installing wooden beams throughout the sitting room. The wood for the beams was reclaimed from a barn in the Midwest, and had to be kiln-dried to prepare it for the California climate.
