June 26, 2009 - La Jolla Christmas Parade 2008

The Dewhurst family as been involved with the La Jolla Christmas Parade since the beginning in 1954 with Pancho's grandfather, Walter Dewhurst being one of the first chairs to organize and run the Christmas parade down Girard Avenue in La Jolla to Scripps Park at the Cove. In the early sixties the parade ceased to exist until 1983 when Pancho's father George Dewhurst helped bring the parade back to La Jolla. George Chaired the Christmas Committee from 1983 to 1987.

In 1983 George planted the Christmas Tree on behalf of the La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club at the La Jolla Recreational Center and designated the end of the parade to be at the location of the Christmas tree for Santa (who rode in the fire truck at the end of the parade) to light the tree which would start the beginning of the Christmas Season. The Parade has been running continuously since 1983.

In 2008 Pancho and George Dewhurst co-chaired the parade which had many entries and approximately fifteen thousand spectators. It was very successful.
